Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best method to get the plaque to Plaque Restoration Services? To ship UPS or similar shipping company, the maximum weight allowed is 150 pounds with maximum dimensions of 108” in length and maximum overall size of 165”; calculated by two times the width plus two times the height plus the length.  It is best to ship the plaque in a small wooden crate or the shipping company may be able to provide packaging. Plaques larger than this must be shipped by common carrier.  We have accounts with many carriers and can help make the arrangements for you if needed.  To ship via common carrier, the plaque must be properly crated.  For a small charge, we can build a custom crate sized for your plaque and have the crate shipped to you for appropriate packaging. How long does the refinishing process take? Since all plaques are restored by hand, the complexity and size the plaque determines how many craftsman hours are needed.  A general rule is approximately 3-4 weeks. What are the payment terms? A 50% deposit is required upon our receipt of your plaque.  Upon completion of the restoration, photographs will be sent to you showing the final results and final payment will be due.  Upon receipt of final payment the plaque will be crated and shipped back to you. Is on-site restoration available? Many environmental factors such as blowing dust and dirt, humidity and temperature can affect the finished outcome of a restoration.   In addition, steel brushes, grinders and chemical strippers can permanently damage your plaque diminishing its life.  These are some of the reasons we do not recommend restoring plaques and markers on site and believe the process is best done in a controlled environment. My plaque is missing hardware and some rosettes; can you replace these? Yes. Upon receipt of your plaque we will confirm if an exact match to existing rosettes is available.  If an exact match is not available, we will present alternatives for your consideration. Do you provide new plaques and markers? Yes.  Based on the size with wording we can easily provide a quote for any new plaques.  Many times projects require new plaques to match those existing and through our wholesale relationship with the foundries we are able to provide value pricing for your project.
